bathroom arch peeling

Hi – I’m a new premier instance homeowner and americium so thankful to find a place like this! I someone noticed a problem in my bathroom and want to fix it swift before it becomes even more of associate issue. Here it is…

There is associate arcade complete my tub. To the top-grade of my knowledge this arch is drywall – nothing special to tale all for wet. The paint on the underside of the arch is starting to peel and bubble. I cannot see any grounds whatsoever of mold at this point, but I want to act of this past it gets any worsened.

My grill is this, can I sand and slab this archway even though it is drywall? I’ve read conflicting things about covering over drywall in a shower. This is not precisely within the deluge, but it is frequently exposed to moisture/condensation, so pretty much the same thing.

If the reply is yes, slab finished it, what is the best way to go about doing that (bash I need to splurge some sort of waterproof sealant, special grout, etc?)

If the response is no, don’t tile over it, however could I fix it instead?

Musky smell in bathroom

Sometimes there is this musky funk hint within this bathroom that I never use. The door to this bathroom is unbroken closed and so is the window in that room. I am going to view that perhaps the vessel gasket is not creating a perfect fastener or perhaps the smell is coming out of the shower tray, bathtub or washbasin. Any ideas?
